SCECH

What are SCECHs?

State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECH) are hours earned by attending professional development activities provided by SCECH Sponsors and approved by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). These hours can be used for renewal and progression of certificates and licenses issued by MDE.

District Provided SCECH

As a SCECH-approved sponsor, Huron Valley Schools offers professional learning opportunities through early release days, full-day professional learning sessions, new educator orientation, and student teaching experiences in partnership with participating colleges and universities. No other outside professional learning hours qualify for SCECH credit sponsored by Huron Valley Schools.

2025/2026 School Year Opportunities

Educators need 150 education-related professional learning hours to renew MDE issued certificates and licenses. These hours may be obtained only by college credits, SCECHs, or district provided professional development (DPPD) completed prior to July 1, 2020.

Attendance Requirements

Huron Valley educators are required to attend and sign in on the day of qualifying professional learning using the designated attendance form. The name provided must exactly match the first and last name listed in MOECS, and must include the Personal Identification Code (PIC). Failure to follow these requirements may result in not earning SCECH credit.

How are SCECHs awarded?

SCECHs are awarded through MOECS by the program sponsor once attendance has been verified. After participants are uploaded into the system, each educator will receive an automated email prompting them to complete a program evaluation. This evaluation can be accessed either through the email notification or by logging into MOECS and selecting "Complete SCECH Evaluations" from the main menu (after confirming or updating contact information).

SCECHs are awarded upon successful completion of the evaluation. Educators may complete the evaluation at any time before their next certificate renewal.

Tracking SCECHs in MOECS

Educators can track their SCECHs through the MOECS system. To access this feature, educators must have a personal MOECS account and hold a valid certificate or license issued by the Michigan Department of Education’s Office of Educator Excellence.

To view awarded SCECHs, educators should log into MOECS using their personal username and password. After reviewing and confirming or updating their personal information, they can select "View Professional Learning" from the left-hand menu. From there, click on the "District Uploaded PD and SCECHs" tab to view awarded credits, and "Access Evaluations Due" to see any incomplete program evaluations.
