Support Service Staff Award

Adult Education’s Karen Gerard has been awarded the MACAE 2022 Support Service Staff Award. Karen has been supporting, caring, teaching, and advising Adult Education students for more than 20 years for the Huron Valley Adult Education Program. She is a passionate friend, counselor, guide, advocate and mom to all who have struggled through life’s twisted walkways on their road to success.

Karen was nominated by Benjamin Dowker, Director of Adult and Alternative Programs. “Karen works tirelessly as an active and continual role model for our Adult Education students. She has the incredible ability to laugh a moment’s notice and work through life’s hard moments with a genuine heart that is easy to see. She builds strong, lasting connections with our students, and she uses these relationships to motivate them towards their future goals. Without these relationships and a relentless passion for what she does, countless students would have slipped by without success.”

This week, Karen will receive her award virtually during the MACAE (Michigan Adult, Community & Alternative Education Association) Fall 2022 Conference: Partners for Progress in Muskegon.
