For the Huron Valley Schools girls cross country team, success is about more than miles and race times. It's about the friendships, encouragement and team spirit that make the sport special.

This year's team features several new and younger runners, but as the season progressed, the group found its stride and developed a strong connection.

"This is the best version of this team right here and right now," Coach Brian Salyers said, crediting the runners' investment in both the sport and one another for the team's growth.

That commitment translated into success on the course. The girls finished third in their division and fifth at Regionals, with three runners earning spots in the State Finals: Jillian Broyles, Jordan Middleton and Elena Remtema.

For the runners, however, the friendships are just as important as the competition.

Running is a challenging sport, but having teammates who become like family makes every practice and race more rewarding. The athletes say cross country has taught them the importance of hard work, perseverance and supporting one another.

"It's really fun, and it's worth every bit of it," one runner said. "These are the memories you make that you will never forget."

With a strong team bond and three state qualifiers, the girls have plenty to celebrate this season—both on and off the course.
