Milford High School senior Lexa Pierson has made her mark in school history, breaking the all-time career kills record for the Mavericks volleyball program.

Pierson, a four-year varsity outside hitter, surpassed the previous record set in 2007 by Kaitlyn Schultz, ending a 19-year run at the top of the record books. Pierson continues to add to her career total as the season progresses.

“Breaking a 19-year-old record just feels pretty cool,” Pierson said.

Because Pierson broke the record during an away game, Milford celebrated the achievement at its next home match. The team invited Schultz, the previous record holder, to present Pierson with the game ball she used to break the record, creating a special moment connecting two generations of Milford volleyball players.

For Milford's coaching staff, Pierson's accomplishment reflects years of dedication and growth.

As a freshman, Pierson arrived with plenty of talent. Over four years on the varsity team, she developed into a hardworking, gritty and mentally tough senior athlete.

“It's been really cool to see her come in as a raw freshman with a ton of talent and grow into a really hardworking, gritty, mentally tough, strong senior athlete breaking school records,” coach Annie Malburg said. “Super honored to be part of her journey and look forward to seeing what she does next.”

Pierson's volleyball career will continue beyond Milford. She has committed to Oakland University, where she plans to continue playing at the collegiate level.

With district competition approaching, Pierson is eager to help the Mavericks make a strong postseason run.

“We start districts in a couple weeks, so I'm excited to get going on that and hopefully have a lot of volleyball left,” Pierson said.

As Pierson continues to build on her record-setting career, she leaves a lasting legacy at Milford while preparing for the next chapter of her volleyball journey.
