Homecoming Week is one of the most anticipated traditions of the school year, bringing students together for a week filled with school spirit, friendly competition and plenty of opportunities to make memories with friends.
But what makes Homecoming so special to students?
We asked Milford High School students to share their favorite part of Homecoming Week, and their answers highlighted just how many different traditions make the celebration memorable.
For some students, it’s the football game — especially when surrounded by friends and classmates. Others look forward to Spirit Week, when students get to dress up, show their school spirit and bring some extra energy to the halls.

“The spirit days” and “seeing everyone dress up” were popular responses, while several students said simply being together with friends was their favorite part.
The Powder Puff game also earned plenty of votes, with students describing the event as a fun way to kick off the week and get everyone involved.
For students involved in Homecoming preparations, the behind-the-scenes work is part of the fun, too. Some students said their favorite part is setting up the dance, giving classmates an opportunity to work together and bond while creating a memorable night for everyone.
Other favorites included the Homecoming parade, the pre-game cheer performance, taking pictures with friends and, of course, the Homecoming dance itself.
Perhaps the most common theme was simple: togetherness.
Students repeatedly talked about spending time with friends, seeing classmates participate and watching the entire school come together to celebrate.
From Spirit Week and Powder Puff to the parade, football game and dance, Homecoming Week offers something for everyone — and for Milford students, the best part may simply be sharing it all with the people who make the memories special.
Go Mavs!
