Another Lakeland High School alumnus is taking the next step in his professional hockey career.

Lakeland High School Class of 2017 graduate Ronnie Attard has signed a two-way contract with the Detroit Red Wings, bringing the White Lake native back to his home state as he continues his National Hockey League journey.

A defenseman known for his offensive skill and leadership, Attard made his NHL debut with the Philadelphia Flyers after a standout collegiate career at Western Michigan University. Over the past two seasons, he has played within the American Hockey League organizations affiliated with the Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche, continuing to develop his game at the professional level.

Attard's path to the NHL began at Lakeland High School before he advanced to the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League, where he emerged as one of the league's top defensemen. During his final USHL season, he captained the Storm while leading all defensemen in goals, points and plus/minus. His outstanding performance earned him USA Hockey's Dave Tyler Junior Player of the Year award, along with USHL Player of the Year and Defenseman of the Year honors.

He continued his success at Western Michigan University, compiling 72 points in 94 games from 2019-22. During his three seasons with the Broncos, Attard was twice named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Offensive Defenseman of the Year, earned First Team All-NCHC honors in consecutive seasons and was selected as a CCM/AHCA First Team All-American in both 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Attard has also represented the United States on the international stage. In 2023, he competed at the IIHF World Championship, and in 2018 he captained Team USA to a gold medal at the World Junior A Challenge.

The signing marks another milestone for Attard as he continues to build his professional career while inspiring the next generation of Huron Valley student-athletes.

Congratulations to Ronnie on this exciting achievement, and best of luck as he begins the next chapter of his career with the Detroit Red Wings.
