Thanks to a grant from the Huron Valley Education Foundation, students are exploring music and creativity in a whole new way through the addition of a Loops Lab.
The interactive music-making system features a variety of characters, each programmed with unique musical loops that students can mix and match to create original songs. From singers and instrumentalists to different sound effects, the characters allow students to experiment with rhythm, melody, and composition in an engaging, hands-on environment.
Students quickly embraced the opportunity to become music producers. Whether creating happy songs, rock-inspired beats, or something entirely unique, they can record their creations, give them titles, and share them with classmates.
"The fun part about the Loops Lab is that students take what's already there and create something completely new," said a teacher. "It gives them a chance to be creative and express themselves through music."
Students agree. "It makes me happy because I get to make my own music," said one student. Another added, "I love it because I can create music with all of the characters."
Teachers have found the Loops Lab to be highly accessible, allowing students of all musical backgrounds to participate and succeed. The collaborative nature of the activity often leads to teamwork, creativity, and even spontaneous dance parties in the classroom.
This school year marked the first time students used the Loops Lab, and staff members say its impact has been immediate.
"We are very grateful to the Huron Valley Education Foundation," said a teacher. "Without their support, opportunities like this would not be possible."
By combining technology, creativity, and collaboration, the Loops Lab is helping students discover the joy of making music while building confidence and self-expression along the way.
