Despite rainy weather, community members gathered at Huron Valley Schools this week to celebrate the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the new additions and improvements coming to White Lake Middle School.

Superintendent Paul Salah said the event marked an exciting milestone for the district as construction officially gets underway on the project, which will continue over the next several years. Although heavy rain forced attendees indoors, several district leaders still attempted to take part in the traditional shovel ceremony before getting soaked by the sudden downpour.

“I’m not going to forget this date just because of that,” Salah joked during the ceremony. “As superintendent, I couldn’t be more proud of the work that has already started and the work that will continue over the next couple years.”

District leaders said the improvements will create a facility that reflects the strength of the programs, students and staff already inside the school. Salah praised White Lake Middle School staff members for their daily commitment to providing students with a high-quality education.

Board of Education members also shared their excitement about the long-awaited project becoming a reality. Officials noted that it was important for the district to invest equally in both middle schools and provide students with modern learning spaces that match the needs of the community.

“In a few years, we’re going to have the most beautiful middle schools in the state of Michigan,” school board member Lindsay Cotter said during the ceremony. “Certainly our community deserves that.”

The district also thanked families, staff and community members who attended the event and supported the vision for the future of White Lake Middle School students.
