A select group of student vocalists from Lakeland High School and International Academy–West has received statewide recognition for their musical excellence.

The 12-member advanced treble ensemble, known as the 'Bluebirds', has been chosen to perform at the Michigan School Vocal Music Association All-State Festival, one of the highest honors for school music programs in the state. The festival will take place May 8 at Michigan State University.

The invitation follows the ensemble’s outstanding performance at State Solo and Ensemble earlier this month. Based on those results, the Bluebirds were selected as one of just 14 large ensembles from across Michigan to perform at the prestigious event.

“We are very honored to be in the company of such outstanding choir programs,” said Jeff Nelson, director of choirs for Lakeland High School and International Academy–West.

The ensemble includes students from both schools, reflecting a collaborative effort that highlights the depth of talent across the Huron Valley district. Students selected for the Bluebirds ensemble are:

  • Haneul Bahk-Halberg

  • Sai Sahasra Namuduri

  • Mahitha Periketi

  • Zofia Kasenow

  • Lina LaPratt

  • Jaelyn Lawrence

  • Molly Phillips

  • McKinley Pietila

  • Rachel Rossetti

  • Madison Sprinkle

  • Malu Trice

  • Lily Vivio

A livestream link of the May 8 performance is expected to be shared ahead of the event, allowing supporters to watch the ensemble take the stage.

The All-State Festival performance marks a significant milestone for these young vocalists, showcasing their dedication, skill, and the strength of Huron Valley’s music programs on a statewide stage.
