Milford High School senior Lacey Smith has achieved an impressive milestone, qualifying for DECA’s International Career Development Conference (ICDC) for three consecutive years.
Lacey began her DECA journey as a freshman, advancing to the state competition in a role play event. Over the next three years, she transitioned to team-based prepared events, where success requires extensive collaboration, planning, and presentation skills. Her dedication paid off each year, earning her a spot at the international level alongside her teammates.
“The fact that Lacey has been part of a team that advanced to the international competition three years in a row is notable,” said Kelly Janeczek, DECA advisor. “I looked back into the archives and haven’t found any other student who can add this achievement to their resume.”
She competed for two years with fellow senior Dylan Doggett and partnered this year with senior Madelynn Zumstein, who will also be attending ICDC for the second time. According to Janeczek, no other Milford student has qualified for the international competition three years in a row.
Beyond competition, Lacey also represented Milford on the Michigan DECA Advisory Council, further demonstrating her leadership and commitment to the program. Her success over the past four years highlights both her strong work ethic and the strength of Milford’s DECA program, leaving a lasting legacy.
