The Huron Valley Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Committee has announced details for its 21st annual MLK Day Celebration, including an Art, Writing, and Multimedia Contest open to all ages.

The 2025 theme, “The Great Force of Non-violence,” invites creative works inspired by Dr. King and other Civil Rights leaders’ commitment to nonviolence as a powerful tool for change. Submissions—ranging from paintings and photography to songs or speeches—will be judged on quality and interpretation of the theme. Prizes will be awarded in three age groups (11 & under, 12–17, and 18+). Entries are due Friday, January 9, 2026, and will be displayed at The Suzanne Haskew Arts Center (The SHAC) before and during the March on Main Street on Sunday, January 18.

The march begins at 1:00 p.m. (lineup at 12:30) from Prospect Hill to The Warehouse, with music, refreshments, and a presentation of contest awards. The event celebrates Dr. King’s legacy and promotes community service opportunities supporting his vision of the Beloved Community.

Additional events include a Film Appreciation Night at Milford Independent Cinema, a meal drive for Community Sharing Outreach Center, and a Meal Assembly Service Event on Monday, January 19, 5–8 p.m. at The Warehouse. The committee also sponsors the hearty soup shelf at Community Sharing’s food pantry.
