Huron Valley Schools Superintendent Dr. Paul Salah, School Board President Laura Dodd, and Director of Communications Barb Roethler were recently invited to present at the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) Conference on the topic of “A Comprehensive Approach to School Safety.”
Their session underscored the importance of building a unified and proactive culture of safety within schools—one that involves not only administrators and educators but also students, families, and community partners. The team shared Huron Valley Schools’ strategic initiatives and best practices, emphasizing prevention, preparedness, and communication as key pillars of a strong safety plan.
Dr. Salah spoke about the district’s ongoing commitment to collaboration and transparency, noting, “Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students requires every voice at the table. When we work together—educators, parents, students, and community members—we create an environment where learning can truly thrive.”
The presentation served as a model for districts across Michigan, encouraging school leaders to adopt a comprehensive and community-centered approach to maintaining safe and secure learning environments for all.
