The Hartland United Figure skaters (comprised of Hartland, Lakeland, Brighton, and South Lyon schools) advance to the State Championships March 10th and 11th held in Southgate. Both the A and C team completed the regular season in the top 2 positions moving them on to the championships.
The figure skating team competed in three district competitions throughout the year and had to place in first or second after a cumulative score of the three to move on to post season competition. The A team placed second overall and the C team placed first overall. This is the first time in the team history that the C team is going into the State Championship with a first-place seed. The B team although did not qualify for States had an exceptional season and overall placed 3rd, just missing the championship by 2 points. The team had three captains this year Ally Brucato (Hartland High School), Emilia Djuric (Brighton High School) and Caitlynn Curley (International Academy-West) who led the team on and off the ice. The captains along with Victoria McLaughlin (Lakeland High School) were honored on Saturday as the four graduating seniors from the team. The team will miss their leadership and positive attitudes next year as they all continue on with their education.
This will be the 11 consecutive years that Hartland United continues on to the State Championship for A team. Not only is this a true testament of the strength of the program but the leadership of the coaches and upperclassmen. The team always knows that the team placements and skills are selected for the best of the team and the skaters have always been on board with that. That is what the Hartland team is about – having sportsmanlike and support towards one another.
The 2023 – 2024 team members are Camryn Ball, Ally Brucato, Makenna Christianson, Madison Christianson, Sydney Colley, Caitlynn Curley, Emilia Djuric, Connie Gorelik, Katerina Hudecek, Mikaela Jewell, Evie Lantis, Victoria McLaughlin, Amelia Mello, Lilly Palacios, Isabel Petroskey, Sadie Porter, Ashtyn Rudd, Isabelle Sperry, Bella Sutherby, Madison Szutarski, and Morgan Torongo.
