Vocal Music

The Lakeland High School/International Academy-West choir program is a collection of curricular and extra curricular choirs that seek to develop a student’s singing skills and musicianship. The choirs at LHS and IA-West participate in several musical performances as well as field trips and other activities throughout the year. Our ensembles consist of:

  • Concert Choir: Introductory treble ensemble for beginning high voice singers

  • Lakeland Singers: Advanced mixed ensemble for experience high voice singers and low voices singers of all levels

  • IA Chorale: MYP Music course focused on ensemble singing and developing other skills

  • Bluebirds: Advanced, auditioned small treble ensemble; meets after school

  • Noteworthy: Low voice ensemble open to all students; meets after school

The LHS/IA-West Choirs participate in four concerts throughout the year and perform at MSVMA Solo and Ensemble and/or District Choral festival during second semester. During February, low voice singers participate in "Bass Voices Day" with singers throughout the district. In each choir, students work to develop vocal technique, music theory, sight reading, and ensemble skills that will allow them to be successful lifelong singers.
