The Advanced Placement U.S. History students embarked on a project known as progressive speed dating. The activity required that each student choose a character from the early 20th century progressive era, study that character in detail, and then prepare to take on that character's persona during the speed dating activity. It is a fun and interactive activity that is loosely based on what is known as speed dating. But rather than each character attempting to find a romantic match they are instead looking to find a person who would decidedly work well with them during that time in history in achieving one another's cultural, political, or societal goals. The project is an interactive means for students to better acquaint themselves with the diversity of movements and struggles that permeated the Progressive Era in the United States.

Let's share some exciting news for the Vocal Music Program! On January 27 & 28 Milford students hosted and participated in MSVMA’s solo and ensemble. 30 students helped run the event in the CPA, along with 4 Lakeland students, Mr. Nelson, Lakeland’s Choir director, and Mrs. Gallagher, Muir’s director. At Milford, 16 students competed as soloists, and each received a “1” rating, which is the highest rating a student can receive. 5 of these students received perfect scores on their performance! The students that performed were Ivy Williams, Jillian Armstrong, Grant Camden, Lauren Gates, Austin Matlis, Ella Maiberger, Matthew Stewart, Joe Meagher, Brendan Stewart, Aubrey Snavely, Savannah Lane, Abbie Hess, Bethany Stewart, Allison Mobey, Amelia Dalbis, and Shea Giese. Over Mid Winter Break, the Advanced Choirs went to Disney! 38 students attended this trip where they had four days to explore each of the four parks. On this trip, they were provided with the opportunity to perform on a stage at Disney Springs earning a plethora of support from their acquired audience. Students also got the opportunity to attend a workshop in which they learned and recorded a medley in an official recording studio, leaving them with new skills and lifelong memories. The Concert Choir (first year choir members) traveled to Waterford Kettering on March 6, and received a “1” rating for District Choral Festival. Some of the judges comments were: “Wonderful vibrance and energy to the sound!”, “Beautiful energy!”, and “Wonderful soloists!” Additionally students were met with a very enthusiastic clinician leaving them feeling inspired and eager for their upcoming years in our program. Additionally, the Concert Choir students decided they would be taking the opportunity to perform at the State Choral Festival. POPS THIS WEEKEND! The Advanced Choirs have been working tirelessly to put together our annual Pops show. A Grand Night for singing will be March 17th @ 7pm, March 18th @ 2pm & 7pm! This includes selections from Center Stage, Choraleers, soloists, duets & more! This is our wonderful accompanist, Brenda Granroth’s, final Pops with us before her retirement. Her 20+ years with us have been greatly appreciated and her impact on our program will never be forgotten. Thank you all for always supporting The Arts in Huron Valley. We can't do it alone, and I thank the administration, board members, teachers, families, and community for all their help and support. ~Miss Brittany Miller Director of Vocal Music Activities MHS
