Over the break, our winter guard was extremely busy hosting the MCGC Lakeland Invitational on Sunday, March 27th. They finished in 3rd place and had a great showing with a score of 75.22. They turned right around and competed at Championships at Saginaw Valley University this past Saturday and finished their MCGC season in 4th place with a great performance and final score of 76.31. We are extremely proud of their work and growth this season for sure! They will finish their season this week as they compete at World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.

Please congratulate members of the HVS-GMPG HOT Robotics Team on their 2022 Troy District Win! During Spring Break (March 31-April 2) the HOT Team competed with 40 teams from around Michigan in the Troy District Robotics Event. Through the 80 qualification matches leading into the elimination tournament, the HOT Team traded top rankings with Team RUSH, from Clarkston. The HOT Team ended as the second seed and was picked by team RUSH as their first alliance partner. The second pick was the Benzene Bots, from the IA East. Our alliance won the tournament in dramatic form earning a top score of 150 points. The HOT Team was awarded the GM Industrial Design Award for their elegant, efficient, and practical engineering. The tournament's judges found the HOTBot distinguished itself from all other robots in its aesthetic and functional design. The Troy award and win combined with the HOT team's Milford Tournament results to all but officially qualify the team for the State Tournament at SVSU April 13-16.

Huron Valley Marching Band 2022 Official kickoff meeting, April 5th, 7pm, at the MHS Café. Anyone who plans to join the 2022 HV Marching Band (new or returning) should attend with a parent. Be a part of a great new tradition in Huron valley!

Seven HVS students were selected, based on nominations and auditions, for the WMU All-Star Band, which will perform in concert at WMU on Thursday, April 14th with guest conductor/composer Julie Giroux. These students will perform along with approximately 100 high school band students selected from around the state to represent their high school band programs. There were many more applicants, and the ensemble selection process was very tough this year! Representing our HVS Bands are the following students: MHS: Aaron Kowalski - Clarinet Grace Miller - Alto Sax Molly Weisberg - Trumpet LHS: Teagan Smith - Flute Samantha Schwartz - Clarinet Zach Zuber - French horn Ian Day - Trombone Congratulations to all these wonderful students! This is an incredible day filled with rehearsals, master classes, clinics, and of course, their performance at the evening concert!

The MHS Junior Optimist Club sent ten representatives to Spring Mills Elementary this week to talk to the 5th graders about resisting peer pressure. Optimist students have visited the 5th grade classrooms at Heritage Elementary and have plans to visit Kurtz and Highland Elementary in April. The Junior Optimist Club (JOI) meets weekly during seminar to share community service opportunities open to students. The club is open at any interested Milford High School student. At the Troy MCGC Invitational, the Huron Valley Winter Guard had an awesome performance in competition, walking away with a FIRST PLACE win in their class with a score of 72.36! Way to go HVA!

We will be having SAT/PSAT testing April 13th for grades 9-11. Testing rules prohibit lunch breaks. We are requesting donations of healthy snacks for our students during their 10 minute break. We need over 1000 individually wrapped/sealed snacks for the students during these important state assessments. Donated items can be dropped off in the main office anytime between now and April 11th. This week, a great collaboration took place between students from 3 high schools in our district @ the 2022 FIRST Robotics competition hosted by MHS, Lori Gleason & the H.O.T. Team! They truly are the H.eros O.f T.omorrow! After a 2 year hiatus (where their last competition was first of many planned competitions, yet the last event before Covid hit out state) they returned with a phenomenal robot ready to take on the challenge this year.

MHS Parent Council is scheduled to meet THURSDAY, MARCH 17, 2022 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at Milford High School, in the LGI. ~Topics on the Agenda are: PSAT/SAT Testing Information AP Testing Information Scheduling for the 2022-23 School Year POPS Concert 3/18 (7 PM) 3/19 (1 PM/7 PM) Spring Break 3/28-4/1 All MHS Parents are welcome to become members of the Parent Council.

A big congratulations to the HOT Team for winning the Quality Award at this past weekends robotics tournament held here at MHS.

We had an amazing three days at the MI DECA State competition with 45 great students competing in 20 different events. The growth and learning we saw happening before my eyes was a-m-a-z-i-n-g. 13 students were invited to compete at ICDC and 30 additional medals were received. This past weekend, at the Gibraltar Carlson Invitational for Winter Drum Line, Huron Valley Percussion had a great performance in competition and finished in 2nd place with a 77.05. The group has been working incredibly hard and is gearing up next for State Championships held at Lakeland on April 9th. Congrats to HVP!

For the first time in 2 years, the Huron Valley Virtual Enterprise International (VEI) programs at both MHS & LHS traveled to compete in a state wide trade show at Frankenmuth, MI (formerly NYC, an international event). Carrie Smith, the Michigan State Coordinator and Wendy Schmidt, the Great Lakes Regional Director (former LHS VEI), sponsored this event and Scott Rolando and Kaye Sommers supported their students in this unique opportunity.

It's National School Social Work Week, and at HVS, we have some of the best. These professionals help students deal with mental health and behavioral challenges and provide academic and classroom support. They also help in developing education policies and work with teams to support crisis interventions. Thank you, HVS social workers! #HVSProud

A group of Junior Optimist Club members attended a two day training on the topic of peer resistance. This amazing group of 10 students are in the process of visiting fifth grade classrooms around Huron Valley Schools. They spend approximately one hour talking with the fifth graders about how to resist pressure and say “NO!” in a variety of different dangerous and destructive situations, such as drinking and vaping. These Junior Optimist Club members have enjoyed working with the fifth graders & are excited about being a positive influence!

This past weekend, the Huron Valley Alliance Winter Guard competed in their second national regional at the WGI Flint Regional competition. The group had another strong showing, finishing in 5th place in finals with a 75.97. The group has made great strides this year and is growing every week. Their next event is on March 20th at Troy Athens HS. Congratulations HVA!
