Rosie

Huron Valley Schools is pleased to share another layer of school safety to support our district. Thanks to the School Safety Grant from the Michigan Legislature, the district is taking part in a Elite Detection K-9 program. Our district will have a dog and handler that will help in our efforts to keep our staff and students safe. Rosie will primarily be housed at our high schools but she will also be visiting every school in the district.

"Student and staff safety are at the forefront of our minds as we make decisions and this pilot program is yet one more resource we will have at our disposal," said  Barb Roethler, Director of Communications and Community Relations at HVS.

Our students may see the dog and her handler Jon throughout the school, walking hallways, greeting students as they arrive in the morning and parking lots. Rosie has the ability to detect gunpowder or explosives. Unlike other working K-9s, Rosie is able to receive attention and affection from the student body that helps create a trusting relationship between the students and the K-9 team.
