Milford High School recently honored the brave men and women who serve the country and local community during its Military and First Responders Appreciation Night, featuring a special visit from a CH-47 Chinook helicopter, first responder vehicles and opportunities for spectators to meet the people behind the uniforms.

The event gave attendees a unique opportunity to get an up-close look at the Chinook helicopter, tour its interior and meet crew members. Several first responder vehicles were also on display, helping connect students, families and community members with those who dedicate their lives to serving others.

Chief Warrant Officer 5 Tim Miller, a Highland resident since 2007 and a Milford High School parent, helped make the helicopter visit possible. Both of his sons have attended Milford, and his youngest is currently a student at the high school.

Miller said the event has been a tradition for approximately six or seven years, providing an opportunity to give back to a community he appreciates.

“It's a great event, and Milford's a great hometown,” Miller said.

The evening also included a presentation of the colors by members of Huron Valley Amvets Post 2006. Post Commander Larry Began said the organization participates in events throughout the area, presenting the colors for the national anthem and honoring veterans who have died through the playing of “Taps.”

Began said it is an honor for the post to participate in events that recognize military service and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Milford High School's Military and First Responders Appreciation Night served as a meaningful opportunity to recognize the dedication, courage and service of military members, veterans and first responders while bringing the school and community together.

Huron Valley Schools extends its sincere gratitude to all military personnel, veterans and first responders for their service and commitment to protecting and serving others.
