Muir Student Council

Goals:  The Muir Student Council works to make our school better through activities and community service. Meetings are scheduled throughout the school year depending on projects.

What is Student Council? Student Council is a student-run extracurricular activity that allows students that meet a specific criteria to be a bigger part of Muir and represent the school in various ways. (Not to mention it looks good on a college application.) We elect a president, vice president, and secretary at the beginning of every year. These positions help navigate meetings and keep them running smoothly. Throughout the year, we have meetings that allow us to plan and carry out different events which can be seen in the “What we do” section.

What we do: We plan different school fundraisers and events throughout the year. This is done through scheduled meetings. Even though what we do is constantly changing and being altered, below is a list of our current yearly happenings:

  • Halloween Dance

  • Fundraisers (Candy sales/Hat days)

  • Selling event tickets

  • Adopt-A-Family Holiday shopping for Muir families

  • Glow Dance

  • Middle School Orientation

Applications:

  • Interested students should meet with Ms. Rapp (katherine.rapp@hvs.org) to pick up the recommendation form and application (6th grade Application)

How will I know if I am eligible:

Current 6th and 7th graders will apply at the end of the academic year for the following year. These students will know before the end of the current year their status with Student Council.

At the beginning of the school year, current 6th graders will be given the opportunity to apply. They will hear about Student Council at lunch when applications are ready to go out.

Applications are made available in the office, at lunch, and in Mrs. Rapps classroom (Rm. 112)

Requirements are:

  • Be a current 6th, 7th, or 8th grader

  • Complete the application fully (turn in on time)

  • Get 2 teacher recommendations (from current teachers) Applies to end of year applications only)

  • Maintain a GPA of at least a 3.0

When we meet:

We meet the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month (Sometimes this is changed due to upcoming projects). In the instance of a schedule change, Student Council will discuss and update Google Classroom. In the event that the 1st and 3rd Thursdays aren’t going to work for the current group, the alternative day of the week would be Wednesday.
