Community Gathering

This year, we have started monthly school-wide assemblies/community meetings. During this time, we come together as a whole school to build community. In September, we talked about our 3 Be's: Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible, and throughout the month teachers provided lessons around the school for what this looks like in every area of our school. We also introduced our Spring Mills Pledge, which we now say over the PA every morning right after the Pledge of Allegiance.  In addition, we have weekly and monthly themes that we focus on and teachers provide weekly instruction in those areas.

For October, the focus is Skills for Learning; with specific lessons on listening, focusing with attention, using self-talk, and being assertive when asking for help. When we had our assembly last week, our 3rd graders shared a song that they have learned and had the whole school rockin' it out with them! Our 5th graders also modeled a game called "My turn, Your turn" for our younger students. These short assemblies have provided a great opportunity to build community and pride in our school, and we look forward to watching that build and grow among our students.
