Respect and Kindness at Oxbow:

Our school is dedicated to fostering a warm, welcoming environment where every child feels respected, valued, and safe. Your partnership is crucial in achieving this goal, as children learn not just from teachers, but also by observing and imitating the behaviors they see around them, especially those of their parents.

Here's how you can significantly contribute to a positive school environment:

  • Model respect and professionalism: When interacting with teachers, staff, or other parents, demonstrate courtesy, kindness, and patience. Remember, children are keen observers who pick up on nonverbal cues and tone of voice.

  • Maintain appropriate conduct: Follow school rules and policies, such as arriving and picking up your child on time, communicating your concerns respectfully, and avoiding disruptive behavior in school grounds.

  • Promote kindness and empathy: Encourage your child to treat everyone with respect and compassion, regardless of their background, abilities, or differences.

  • Be mindful of your language: Avoid negativity, gossip, and inflammatory language when discussing school matters or individuals associated with the school.

By demonstrating these positive behaviors, you send a powerful message to your child and others about the importance of fostering a respectful, kind, and inclusive school environment. Together, we can create a space where children feel empowered to learn, grow, and thrive!

If there are adults who can not commit to showing respect to one another, our staff, or our Owls, they will be asked to leave the school grounds. We will not stand for inappropriate behavior in front of our children.

Thank you for your continued partnership in building a positive and supportive school community.

Positivity Project:

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Optimism. Optimism means you expect the best from the future and work to achieve it.

Optimism represents a state of hopefulness and confidence about the future (both short and long term). People with this strength are future-oriented. They have a positive vision of what the future holds and maintain confidence that they will get there. Despite setbacks, they keep a positive attitude and often find ways to convert what seems like an obstacle into a stepping-stone to achieving their goals.

Optimism is not about wearing rose-colored glasses and rolling over when the going gets tough. It’s about staying focused on the good in any situation -- allowing you to be aware of opportunities and accountable for your emotions. Optimists are strong leaders. They find meaning in hardship and can create a vision for the future. Optimists are inspiring; their example is contagious. And, by sharing and achieving their vision -- despite setbacks -- they help us all achieve more.

To practice and encourage the character strength of optimism with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.
