February 9, 2024

Dear Oxbow Families,

We had a busy week here at Oxbow! This week we were able to raise $60 towards the Ken Tucker Scholarship. We will have another Hat Day coming up really soon. We love being able to provide a $500 Scholarship to a graduating senior at Lakeland High School!

On another note, thank you to all that were able to attend our Daddy/Daughter/Someone Special Winter Dance today. It is always amazing seeing our Owls get dressed up and excited for this event.  It’s one of my favorite events! Our OPC and parent volunteers here at Oxbow are truly the best! Thank you for making this special evening possible for our Owls, because without you, we would not be able to provide this event for our Owls.

Also thank you to Mrs. Page for helping to organize and lead the Kids Heart Challenge once again this school year. As of 6:00 pm on Friday evening, we have raised $10,793.75, with our Goal being. $12,000.00. Way to go Owls!

Positivity Project:

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Love. Love means you value close relationships with others and being close to people.

The character strength of love represents the way we think, feel, and behave towards the people with whom we have close relationships. When one person loves another person, that person: comforts and makes the other feel safe; sacrifices on the other’s behalf; supports the other during struggles; and places the others' needs ahead of their own. If you love a person, that person makes you feel safe and secure. You can be yourself with that person. You miss that person when they are not around.

On a group level, love is vital for the wellbeing of society. The world is endlessly interconnected. We are all dependent upon each other for survival and happiness. Love produces positive feelings, which help negate loneliness, anxiety, and depression. Without love, we cannot form strong relationships with our families, friends, or communities. A world without love is a dangerous world.

To practice and encourage the character strength of love with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.

Green Name Tags:

Please be sure to continue using your bright green name tags for dismissal. This is one of our safety measures and it makes dismissal smoother and quicker for staff. If you need a new tag, please reach out to nicole.spangler@hvs.org

Volunteers Needed at Lunch and Recess:

We are looking for parents that are interested and willing to volunteer at lunch and recess. We have room to accommodate those volunteers that would like to help indoors or outdoors. As with any volunteering position, you must have a cleared CRC on file with the Main Office. Please reach out to Mrs. Greenleaf if you would like to help out. We are flexible and open to whatever works with your schedule.

Lunch Hours are 11:45-2:00 pm/ daily

5th Grade Bottle and Can Drive Update:

We will be holding another Bottle and Can Drive the weekend of 2/17. All proceeds collected will go to support 5th graders going to camp in the spring. We were able to collect $873 in the first round.

Thank you to all of our families and staff members who dropped off their cans and bottles. In addition, thank you to the Spangler family for taking the lead on this fundraiser. We appreciate you!

From Last Week:

Crosswalk Update:

At Monday’s Board meeting, the BOE discussed the new safety feature on Oxbow Lake Rd. They will be voting on the safety feature on 2/12. See below for more details.

The Board of Education will be voting on a safety feature for Oxbow’s crosswalk on Oxbow Lake Rd during their monthly Board meeting. The District is recommending the installation of a Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacon (RRFB) at the crosswalk and flashing yellow school safety zone lights. This will help improve the safety on Oxbow Lake Rd and allow White Lake Police Dept. to enforce the speed limits.

Thank you,

Enjoy your weekend!
