October is National Bullying Prevention Month 10/16/2024 is Unity Day wear🧡orange🧡 to take a stand against bullying 🧡What is Bullying? ↪Bullying is any aggressive behavior, by a person or people to another person. It is intentionally hurtful and repetitive. ↪Bullying can take many different forms and varies among age groups. Some forms include: Physical - hitting, kicking, biting, intentionally causing pain Emotional -teasing, name calling, exclusion Social - exclusion, social media attacks, limiting positive interactions Verbal - threats, insults, taunting, racial slurs ↪Bullying types can be combined. In younger students verbal or social bullying is most common. ↪In older children physical,emotional, and social problems are more common. ↪ Bullying usually involves an imbalance of power or control. 🧡Parents Corner ↪Check in with your student each night. Try questions like, “How were you kind to someone today?” or “How was someone kind to you?” ↪ Being kind is a great start, but remember words like acceptance and inclusion(belonging), when teaching children about kindness, especially when it comes to others who are “different” in dress, speech, beliefs, and play. ↪ Identify safe adults at school for them to talk to when needed. ↪Identify ways to appropriately stand up for themselves or others. Empower students to walk away from students who are being rude. ↪Identify ways to be a good friend and to identify a good friend. ↪Recite daily positive affirmations about themselves: I am brave. Congratulations to Mrs. Currie’s, Mrs. Robert’s and Mrs. Hojnacki’s classes for earning over 100 SOAR tickets so far this year!! That’s a lot of good citizenship!!! Thank you to our community partner, McDonald’s of White Lake, for providing free cone cards for our Lakewood Hawks for the 4th year in a row!
