We chose this location intentionally. Just as Ms. Stachura welcomed children into her classroom and made them feel cared for. We hope this bench will continue to welcome every student who walks through these doors and carry on her legacy of kindness, compassion, and making every child feel seen.
The bench bears the words:
“In Loving Memory of Ms. Stachura - Teaching Kindness, Sharing Love.”
Moving forward, the bench will also serve as a Buddy Bench—a place where a student can sit when they are looking for a friend, need someone to talk to, or simply want a little extra connection that day.
And keeping with the spirit of welcoming and friendship, you may notice a little friend sitting on the edge of the bench—Chippy D. Chippy D is there as a small reminder that no one should have to sit alone. Whether a student comes to the bench looking for a friend or notices someone who is already there, we hope Chippy D brings a little smile and encourages them to take that first step toward connection.
Our hope is that the bench becomes more than a memorial. We hope it becomes a living reminder of the kindness, love, inclusion, and sense of belonging that Ms. Stachura gave so freely to everyone she met.
May every child who sits on this bench feel welcomed, noticed, and never alone. In this way, her legacy of teaching kindness and sharing love can continue to touch the students of our school for years to come.

Now that Summer Reading is officially wrapped up and White Lake Township Library tallied all the stats, they're excited to announce that Lakewood Elementary tied with Dublin Elementary for the most active school this summer—with an amazing 73 readers! 🎉📖
Here’s the breakdown:
👶 1 reader in our Babies–Preschool Challenge
📚 36 readers in the K–2nd Challenge
📖 34 readers in the 3rd–5th Challenge
🎒 2 readers who moved up to the 6th–12th Challenge but didn’t update their school to middle school (and honestly… that still counts! 😉)
Lakewood has always been one of the library's most active schools, so we're not surprised to see our hawks at the top again this year! 💙
But now, WLTL has a new challenge for our hawks… 👀
🎯 Can Lakewood Elementary reach 100 Summer Reading participants next summer?!
EmmaLee will be bringing that challenge with her when she visits Lakewood at the end of the school year! Let’s see if we can make it happen! 💪📚
