Join the Special Olympics Committee!
We’re inviting parents to help plan this year’s Special Olympics at Lakewood! Now in its second year, our Track & Field event celebrates inclusion and belonging. Meetings are every 4–6 weeks, with more as the event approaches. Come be a part of something meaningful! Please email brenda.chappell@hvs.org for more information.

Your student(s) will be coming home with a Color Run flyer in the coming days. This is our BIG fundraiser for the year and helps us fund the fun!
As the flyer states, our Color Run helped support numerous family events, themed days, enrichment activities and supplemental curriculum like Mystery Science and Xtra Math, used within the classrooms.
With your help, we can have an unforgettable year and make some amazing memories possible with Lakewood!

What is Girls on the Run?
Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity-based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-5th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event (11/16/25 @Belle Isle). The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.

Happy, happy first day of school to all of our Hawks! The sidewalks welcomed Lakewood students and staff for the 2025-26 school year, and we loved seeing all their smiling faces as they walked in! Thank you, families, for following the new arrival procedures. Things will run more smoothly as the days go on.

Good afternoon, Lakewood Families:
I wanted to send you a reminder regarding our arrival and dismissal procedures as outlined in the Welcome Back Letter, so that you and your children are prepared for the start of school on Tuesday.
ARRIVAL:
This year, we will not have lines outside. All students will begin entering the building through the main entrance at 9:05 AM (this includes 1st Grade). From there, safeties and/or staff will be holding up signs in the hallways, indicating where students should line-up until the first bell rings at 9:10 AM. Students should remain in their vehicles until school staff is present outside. Staff members will be on duty to keep it organized/safe.
JK/Kindergarten- For the first week of school, your child’s teacher will meet your children outside and walk them to their classroom.
DISMISSAL
Students are lined up in their classroom 2 ways: Bus Riders or Car Lane Riders.
Bus Riders will line up in an assigned location in the building with an assigned staff member and safeties. From there, the staff member will walk students in a line to their assigned bus.
Car Lane riders walk to the cafeteria and will wait there until their name is called to come to the car lane.
Walk-up pick-up is strongly discouraged, as we will not have school staff outside of the building supervising children. Staff will either be supervising the hallway, walking lines out to buses or supervising car rider pick-up in the cafeteria and/or car line. We want your children to be safe and supervised throughout the dismissal process.
CAR LANE PROCEDURE
9:05am - Earliest drop off time (Staff must be present for students to exit the vehicle)
9:15am - Latest drop off time.
*An adult must sign-in late student/s at the front office vestibule past this time.
MORNING DROP OFF CAR LANE
DO NOT exit your vehicle.
Children should quickly exit the vehicle on the passenger side only (without assistance).
Pull as far forward to the end of the sidewalk as possible, so multiple cars can unload. *A temporary sign will be placed to indicate where to pull forward.
Drop off lane is on the sidewalk curb only - please do not use the grass area for safety reasons.
AFTERNOON PICK UP CAR LANE
Display the yellow name tag on the passenger side visor.
Please keep pulling forward as the cars exit the lane. We will get your student to you.
DO NOT exit your vehicle in the drop off lane as it is unsafe and it will stop the flow of traffic.
Students can only enter the vehicle from the passenger side for everyone's safety.
Once your child is in your vehicle, please depart promptly. If they require your assistance to buckle up, please exit the car lane and stop on the side of the loop area so we may continue to load other students in a safe and timely fashion.
Please communicate these safety guidelines to all caregivers who will be using the lane.
Two yellow visor signs will be distributed to all new families.
Please keep these visor tags until your student moves onto middle school.
You will display this tag on your passenger side visor. If you need any more yellow signs, please contact the office and we will make you some.
Thank you for your cooperation, and I am so excited to see your children next week!
