happy holidays

Happy Monday, Lakewood Families!

The last two weeks I have enjoyed having two guest student principals for the day. Thank you Ben Bildson and Nolan St. Aubin for spending the day with me. As part of their Hawktion experience, they were able to spend the day greeting students, doing the morning announcements, visiting classrooms, supervising lunch and recess, handing out SOAR tickets, and calling names in the car line. They learned about what the principal role looks like and the skills that are needed to be a leader.

A huge shout-out to Michelle Whitehead for putting on another successful Holiday Shop. The Holiday Shop helps students learn about what it means to be a consumer and how to budget money, as well as what the true meaning of the holiday season is, which is giving. Additionally, thank you to all of the family members that volunteered to help the Holiday Shop run smoothly.

Just a reminder that on January 20th (the first day of 2nd semester), the HVS personal communication device policy will go into effect. This means in grades JK-5th grades, students will be prohibited from using or having their personal communication devices, including cell phones and smart watches “powered on” at any time during the school day. The school day begins when a student enters the school building or district owned vehicle (school bus) and includes all instructional periods, lunch, recess, and school trips. The school day ends at the conclusion of the final bell or when a child exits a district owned vehicle. Here is the communication that went out to families on Tuesday, November 25th, and here is the link to the district PCD and Cellphone Guidelines page.

A message from the Lakeland Class of 2028. They have changed the date of their fundraiser due to space conflicts…Join us for a festive Christmas Movie Night on December 17 from 6:00–7:30 pm in the Lakeland High School Theater! Elementary schoolers and their parents/guardians are invited to enjoy a cozy screening of The Grinch (2018). Admission is $5 cash at the door, and families are encouraged to RSVP ahead of time using the QR code on the poster (found within the Squawk Talk). All proceeds will go to the Lakeland High School Class of 2028! We’ll be providing concessions, and students are welcome to come in their pajamas and bring a blanket for extra comfort. Please note that all elementary students must be accompanied by an adult, and no outside food is permitted. We hope to see you there for a magical holiday evening!
