Dear Johnson Elementary Families,

I am so excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Johnson Elementary! I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to serve the students, families and staff of this wonderful school community, and I can't wait to get to know all of you.

For the past three years, I have had the privilege of serving Huron Valley Schools as the District Behavior Specialist. In that role, I worked with schools across the district to support Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), provide professional learning for staff, and partner with teachers and administrators to strengthen systems that help students succeed.

Before joining Huron Valley Schools, I spent nine years as a special education teacher in West Michigan, working with students with emotional impairments at both the elementary and secondary levels. Those experiences shaped my belief that strong relationships are at the heart of everything we do in education. When students know they are cared for, supported and valued, they are better positioned to learn, grow and thrive.

As I begin my new role at Johnson, one of my biggest priorities will be getting to know our students, staff and families. I want to learn about the traditions that make Johnson special, celebrate the strengths of our school community and work together to build an environment where every child feels a sense of belonging.

I believe the best schools are built through collaboration. Our teachers and staff bring tremendous dedication and expertise to their work, and our families are essential partners in helping our students succeed. I look forward to listening, learning and working alongside all of you to make Johnson an even stronger school community.

On a personal note, my family and I are also members of the Huron Valley Schools community. My husband and I have two energetic sons, ages 2 and 4, and our oldest is beginning junior kindergarten in Huron Valley Schools this fall. So, while I am joining Johnson as its principal, I am also experiencing Huron Valley as a parent!

I earned my bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University and my master's degree from Grand Valley State University. Throughout my career, I have been passionate about supporting students, empowering educators and creating positive school communities where everyone feels valued.

I am truly excited for the year ahead and for all that we will accomplish together.

Warmly,

Amanda Rivers
