White Lake resident and long-time board member Jeffrey Long submitted his resignation effective immediately from the HVS Board of Education. Throughout his tenure on the board, Long held several officer positions, including board president.

In a statement read by Board of Education President Sean Carlson, Mr. Long cited his recent retirement from his profession and the desire to free up time for his family as reasons for resigning.

“Jeff Long is a dedicated, committed member of the board who has served his community very well,” Carlson said. “Throughout his decade of service he has demonstrated, time and time again, his passion for public education and specifically the students and staff of Huron Valley Schools. He will be missed by his fellow board members.”

Long was last elected in 2020 for a four-year term. With his resignation, the board is required to appoint a replacement within the 30 days. A newly appointed board member will serve up to the November 2022 election. The appointed board member may choose to run for the balance of Long’s four-year term, which expires Dec. 31, 2024.

Following the reading of Long’s letter of resignation, Carlson outlined the timeline and process for appointing a new board member. Residents 18 years and older who live within the Huron Valley Schools boundaries are eligible to submit an application. The deadline for applications is 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21. The application is available here. Board members will review applications during the Monday, Jan. 24 meeting. It is anticipated that candidates will be interviewed by board members on Jan. 26 and 27, if needed. The individual selected takes office in February.
