At Harbor High School, we are thrilled to begin this new school year at Oak Valley Center, a building that offers so many more opportunities for our students to learn and engage. Engagement is key this year; with our move to OVC, our staff and students piloted Yondr pouches. These pouches eliminate access to personal electronic devices during the school day and were funded through grant dollars for use with our students. This decision is part of a growing national trend in schools, designed to foster better learning environments. Research has shown that cell phones can be a significant distraction in classrooms, interrupting the learning process, negatively impacting mental health and contributing to lower academic performance. We will be monitoring our students’ progress and soliciting feedback from our stakeholders throughout the year but early feedback from our teachers is nothing but positive!
