Applause and appreciation filled the room as Gina Ciancio, office coordinator at Country Oaks Elementary, was surprised with a district-wide honor recognizing her dedication to students, staff and families.
Ciancio has been named Huron Valley Schools’ Support Person of the Year—an award that highlights the impact of behind-the-scenes staff who help keep schools running smoothly each day.
District leaders emphasized the significance of the recognition, noting that hundreds of support staff members serve across the district. Ciancio stood out among her peers for her consistent commitment, professionalism and positive presence.
Colleagues describe her as a steady and welcoming force in the school’s front office—someone who not only manages daily operations but also ensures that students and families feel supported the moment they walk through the door.
“She comes to work every single day and works incredibly hard on behalf of students,” Superintendent Paul Salah said. “She meets the needs of parents, supports staff, and does it all with kindness and grace.”
Country Oaks leadership also highlighted the vital role office coordinators play in a school community. Often referred to as the “heartbeat” of a building, they serve as a central connection point for communication.
For Ciancio, the recognition was both humbling and meaningful. Surrounded by colleagues offering congratulations, she expressed gratitude for the honor and the opportunity to serve her school community.
The award serves as a reminder that while teachers lead classrooms, it takes an entire team—including dedicated support staff like Ciancio—to create a thriving educational environment.
