Cam Gilbert and Mrs Stevens getting ready for cereal drop.

Heritage Elementary successfully hosted its 4th Annual Cereal Domino Drop on Tuesday, the final event before Thanksgiving break. The event was a massive success, with the school collecting a record-breaking 530+ boxes of cereal, easily surpassing the annual goal of 500!

This beloved tradition was inspired by former student Gavin Gilbert and his younger brother, current student Cam Gilbert, who presented the idea to Principal Mrs. Stevens four years ago. The goal is to combine a fun, school-wide activity with a vital food drive.

🗓️ Collecting for a Cause

The collection drive began at the start of November, with students bringing in cereal boxes to be donated to Heritage students and the surrounding community. The donations ran until the Tuesday before the holiday break.

🏃 Setting the Stage for the Tumble

Towards the end of the day, the Leadership Team and staff worked diligently to line up all the collected boxes around the school's hallways. As the last school event before the break, the entire student body gathered, sitting quietly around the long, winding trail of cereal boxes.

With a final countdown – 3, 2, 1... Go! – the first box was tipped, launching a spectacular chain reaction that sent the cereal boxes tumbling like dominoes through the school's halls, much to the delight of the cheering students.

💖 Cereal for the Community

The collected cereal will provide essential support for families during the holidays and beyond:

  • Heritage Families: Immediately after the drop, students in need were able to pick out boxes of their choosing to take home.

  • School Reserve: Some boxes are saved at the school to assist students who may need a meal throughout the school year.

  • Community Sharing: The rest of the boxes are donated to Community Sharing, helping to serve the wider local area.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the 4th Annual Cereal Domino Drop a fun and generous success!
