Happy Monday, Lakewood Families!
Last week was National School Safety week. All students in JK-5th grade engaged in a short presentation that focuses on how to stay safe when there is a fire, severe weather, a medical emergency, a health emergency, when there are building maintenance problems, and/or when there is a dangerous person nearby. Additionally, during National Safety week, we talked about good hygiene to prevent the spread of illness, and we also talked about internet safety. All information in each grade is directly connected with the Michigan Health Standards.
Since it was National School Safety week, I wanted to direct you to this link, which has all of our school safety protocols and procedures for you to review. We practiced a Shelter-In-Place drill Friday morning, in which students and staff remained in their classrooms while instruction continued. This drill is used for short-term emergencies.
This Friday, our school will be celebrating Halloween. It is also a half day, and school will be dismissed at 12:40 PM. Our annual Halloween Parade will be taking place outside of the building (weather permitting) on Friday, 10/31 at 12:05 PM. Lora Collins will be sending out more information regarding this next week. Additionally, I know that many of our teachers are planning celebrations for Halloween involving parent volunteers. In order to volunteer, you must have a CRC on file. CRC (Criminal Record Check) - Online submittal link Online submittal link - must be cleared from HR to volunteer in the school. A new form must be filled out EVERY SCHOOL YEAR (August-June). Please use the same name that you have in your students skyward, this helps with the processing.
Have a great week!
