Happy Monday, Lakewood Families!

The staff at Lakewood really enjoyed welcoming your children back into the building last week. I am super impressed with how all students have been SOARing in their classrooms and in all common areas. Last week, students in grades 1-5 engaged in the beginning of the year SOAR assemblies in which they worked with our staff in setting expectations in common areas such as the bathroom, cafeteria, hallway, and playground. For those of you who don’t know what the acronym SOAR is, it means S-Show Pride and Respect, O-Obtain Goals, A-Act Responsibly, R-Remember Safety.

A couple of safety reminders…we are a cinnamon-aware school, which means we ask that you please not bring cinnamon into our building, due to one of our staff members having a severe cinnamon allergy. Additionally, please make sure during arrival and dismissal times that you are following all traffic patterns and driving slowly when traveling through our parking lots and driveways, so that we can keep everyone safe.

I hope to see all of you at our curriculum night on Thursday, September 11th from 6-7 PM. Curriculum Night is an opportunity for you to learn about what your child will be learning in their classroom this year. Teachers will create and deliver a brief presentation and deliver that same presentation twice. The first presentation will be from 6:00-6:25 PM and the second presentation will be from 6:30-6:55 PM. At 7 PM, there will be an informational session on the DOG Dads and Moms program in the library. This program is for parents/guardians that would like to volunteer in various classrooms and common areas within the school throughout the day. A cleared Criminal Record Check must be on file with the district. You can find the online form here.

Have a great week!
