At International Academy-West, a group of dedicated students is making a lasting impact both inside the school and throughout the community—one act of service at a time.

Leadership in the school’s Red Cross Club has become more than just an extracurricular activity—it’s a meaningful commitment to helping others and building skills for the future. “I’ve grown to really appreciate getting to help others and volunteer around the school and within the community,” said an IAW senior. “It feels good to be part of something big. Especially when you know you’re giving back to the community in a significant way.”

The Red Cross Club focuses on giving back through a variety of initiatives in partnership with the American Red Cross. Students regularly host blood drives and organize CPR and first aid training sessions, often welcoming Red Cross representatives into the school to lead hands-on learning experiences.

The organization emphasizes teamwork and shared goals. Through fundraisers and service events, members learn to collaborate, motivate one another, and make a tangible difference. Proceeds from a recent fundraiser benefitted St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause the students chose for its impact on children in need.

Beyond fundraising, students say the experience has provided valuable life lessons. Participation in the club builds leadership skills, fosters a spirit of service, and creates a strong foundation for any future career path.

At International Academy West, the Red Cross Club continues to show how student leadership and compassion can come together to create meaningful change—both locally and beyond.
