Kathryn E. Sare - Director of Bands

Ms. Sare teaches Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Percussion Ensemble at Milford High School.
Ms. Sare is in her tenth year of teaching, her seventh at Milford, having previously taught high school band, choir, and chemistry at Clio Area High School, where she was nominated for the Clio Area Education Foundation's Teacher of the Year Award, was a recipient of the Clio DeMolay Educator of the Year Award, and received a Good Apple Award from the Clio School Board in both 2010 and 2012. She completed her Masters in Music Education through Sam Houston State University in 2016. She is a graduate of Michigan State University, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Music Education with a minor in Chemistry, finishing with highest honors in MSU's Honors College. She is an incredibly proud graduate of Milford High School, having graduated as valedictorian, been a member of the marching band, and the National Honor Society.
Ms. Sare is still an avid performer and currently plays the flute in the Flint Symphonic Wind Ensemble and trombone in the Milford High School Alumni Jazz Band. Since graduating college, she has also played alto saxophone with the Farmington Community Band and Birmingham Concert Band. Frank Ticheli, David Maslanka, and Percy Grainger are some of Ms. Sare's favorite wind band composers, and she is a fan of many styles of music, including pop, hip-hop, and oldies.
Ian Horste - Visual Instruction
Ian was a member (trumpet player and drum major) of the Milford High School Marching Band for the 1995-1998 seasons. After graduating, Ian went on to march with two competitive drum and bugle corps including three seasons (two of which won world championships) with The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps from Rosemont, IL. Ian was a visual instructor for the Plymouth Canton Educational Park Marching Band for each season from 2001 through 2008. Ian has took a few years recently to become better established in his ongoing career at the Michigan Department of Community Health, and returned to the Milford Marching Band in 2012. This will be Ian's 6th year on staff at Milford.
Jake Turnbow - Marching Band Director
Jake has been on staff at Milford for ten years. He is a 2002 graduate of Milford High School, having marched at MHS from 1998 - 2001. He attended Wayne State University where he studied Music Education. He is a professional composer, arranger, and drill designer who has taught many marching bands and the Huron Valley Alliance Winter Guard. He teaches high brass at Maltby Intermediate in Brighton.
Joanna Morlan - Woodwind Instruction
Joanna was a member of the Milford Marching Band from 2000 - 2003, having performed both clarinet and synthesizer (piano). Joanna studied music at both Michigan State University and Oakland University. This is Joanna's sixth year on staff. Joanna is also on staff for the MHS Woodwind Choir.
Josh Morlan - Woodwind Instruction
Josh was a member of the Milford Marching Band from 2001 - 2004, having performed on the alto saxophone as a featured soloist. He has also marched in Redline Percussion. This is Josh's sixth year on staff. Josh is also on staff for the MHS Woodwind Choir.

Matt Egeler - Front Ensemble Instruction
Matt Egeler is originally from Hazel Park, MI, and has marched many indoor drum lines, including East Side Fury, and has marched with the Cadets in DCI. This will be Matt's seventh year on staff at Milford.
