VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS

Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12 
Required Pre-Requisite: Fundamentals of Art and Design 
FEE: $30

This course is an exploration of commercial skills such as layout, lettering and graphic design. This course will incorporate traditional drawing and painting methods using ink, paint, graphite, colored pencil and marker. It will also incorporate digital mediums such as photography and software editing programs such as GIMP and / or Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop. Projects will include logos, CD Covers, poster design, menu design, travel stamps, themed face card design, cartoon characters and comic strip development. A focus will be on presentation and visual effectiveness for purposes of advertisement and visual communication.

ADV. VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS (Levels 2 - 8)

FEE: $35 

This course will be a further exploration of both tradition methods and graphic design in an effort to visually communicate with a specific audience. A special focus will be on company publications such as business cards, letterhead, envelopes, brochures and poster design as well as product design, packaging and promotion. Students will develop an understanding of what it takes in this culture to mass market a product or service, using social media. Students will also develop effective advertising layouts and illustrations, computer and further investigate the area of cartooning by creating original animation cells.
