Welcome to Kurtz Elementary

Opening its doors in 1969, Kurtz Elementary is nestled in a residential area within walking distance from downtown Milford. With a total student population of approximately 520 students, Kurtz is large enough to provide exciting opportunities for students but small enough to support individuals and their needs. One of nine elementary schools that comprise the Huron Valley School district, Kurtz is within easy access to major expressways. As a result, Kurtz has a diverse economic community.

The staff of twenty-two classroom teachers is complemented by an art, music and physical education program. In addition, Kurtz offers specialized teaching in the areas of literacy and technology. The curriculum is aligned with State of Michigan benchmarks. Staff use a literacy profile to ensure reading progress for lower elementary students. Team teaching and differentiated learning provide opportunities for all children to be successful in school.

The excellent academic program at Kurtz is enhanced by the Kurtz Parent Teacher Association. Monthly meetings are well attended. The annual fundraiser lends financial support for field trips, assemblies and the purchase of special school materials for staff and students.

We invite you to peruse our webpage. Feel free to call us with questions or to make an appointment for our student ambassadors to provide you with a tour.
