It is hard to believe I am beginning my third year as the principal at Heritage. I feel blessed to be a part of this amazing staff. Over the summer our staff was involved in many hours of training to prepare us to be a Leader in Me school. Staff also dedicated many hours to changing the physical appearance of the building. We have many wonderful things planned to help students and parents understand how to use the 7 Habits in their lives. If you have any questions, please contact me so we can talk. Our excitement for developing personal leadership within the students is evident!

Over the last few months, our staff has been participating in a book study of The Leader in Me, a book by Steven Covey. It is an extremely motivating overview of how schools across the United States, as well as other countries, have implemented Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. It was so inspiring, that our staff would like to incorporate these ideas into our school. On Thursday, January 27th at 7 PM, we will be having an informational meeting to discuss this initiative. I hope that you can find time in your schedule to come and hear all about it.
As we approach the Holiday season, I wanted to take time to thank all of our wonderful parents for their support so far this year. With the Giving Tree and Heritage Helping Hands, it is very evident that we have such a considerate and caring school community. We are also thankful for how caring our students are. This month, we are collecting cans for Community Sharing, and our Friday 25-cent "Hat Days" proceeds will go to support the Pet Pantry at Community Sharing. What is so rewarding for me is how many students asked me what community service project we would be doing and when it would start. What a way to warm a Principal's heart!
I hope your two weeks of vacation this December are full of many memorable moments, and you are able to spend time with family and friends.

The first month of school flew by! Already we are into falling leaves, pumpkins, and apple picking.
October is always a busy month. The state assessments, MEAP, are done in October. Students in grades 3-5 will be participating in the state test the second and third week of the school year. In order to help them be as ready as possible, it is important the students get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast. We appreciate all of our parents' support during this time.
Another exciting event in October is the Fun Run. The Heritage PTO is having only one fundraiser this year - the Fun Run. On October 15, students will be participating in a run/walk to help raise money for the PTO. This money is used to support the students with activities such as assemblies, field trips, and materials for the classroom. One of the exciting aspects of the Fun Run that the students are talking about is me dying my hair! Yes, it is true, if we raise $15,000 I will be dying my hair with pink highlights. The kids are very excited!
Thank you for all of your support so far this year. I hope when I see you next, my hair will be pink!

Welcome back to the 2010-2011 school year. I hope your summer was relaxing and filled with lots of family time. We are so excited to see all of you again this year. We have many new faces at our school - both staff and students. They will be wonderful additions to our Heritage family.
We once again have many wonderful activities planned for this school year including Math Pentathlon Fridays, Chess Club, and Reading Club. Our PTO has many exciting events planned. I encourage you to become a member of the Heritage PTO. Look for information in their folders sent home each week. The school Fun Run is scheduled for October 15. This is the PTO's only fundraiser this year, and it helps to support our students and teachers in activities such as field trips and classroom materials.
If there are ever any concerns, questions, comments, or compliments, please stop by or contact me. Working together as a team is the best way to help every student be successful. In Huron Valley Schools we are happy that our main goal is: Inspiring and building futures...one students at a time! We hope you become a partner with us in your child's education. Together, we can encourage and support our kids to achieve their own goals.
I look forward to a fantastic school year!
