Dr. Nancy Coratti talks about Jr. Kindergarten
Junior Kindergarten - The Gift of Time
Beginning in the 2017-18 school year, Huron Valley Schools will offer a new option for kindergarten families; Junior Kindergarten. The program is designed for students who would benefit from a two year kindergarten experience.
- The Junior Kindergarten curriculum will have a more play-based, learn by doing approach.
- Junior Kindergarten students will receive art, music and physical education classes.
The flow chart below will be helpful in deciding the best placement for your child:
In order to be eligible for Junior Kindergarten, students must either be 5 years old by September 1, 2017 or be eligible for an early entry option which requires a parent signed waiver (see below) and a birthday between September 1 and December 1, 2017. This 5 day a week program is at no cost to families. Consequently, the target audience is students who qualify for a waiver or those who would benefit from the gift of time. Students who need to enhance their social, self-monitoring, fine motor, and academic skills or had a limited preschool experience could also be a good match for the program.
Junior Kindergarten information will be shared with different stakeholders in multiple venues in the next few months. Interested families can fill out the Google form below or contact their neighborhood elementary school so their name can be added to the enrollment list. Building lists will help determine possible locations of the program. Once the locations are determined, transportation will be provided to students living within the program location boundaries.
