Our Schools / Our Students

There are nine elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools and one alternative high school in the District. We are also host to the International Academy West campus located at Lakeland High School. In addition to the regular program, Huron Valley Schools offers educational alternatives and supplemental programs for special needs students.

Sixty percent of our teachers hold advanced degrees. All HVS teachers are highly qualified.

Huron Valley students MEAP Proficiency scores exceeded state results on all 18 assessments. The District MEAP mean scale scores improved in 16 of 18 assessments.

Milford and Lakeland High Schools were recognized by Newsweek as being in the top 2000 High Schools in the nation. The International Academy (IA) is now an official International Baccalaureate IB Middle Years Program (MYP) school making the IA one of the only all IB High Schools in the state of Michigan. The IA is the number one High School in the State of Michigan according to Newsweek and U.S. News and World Report.

Approximately 88% of our graduates pursue a higher education. Our music programs, robotics teams, sports teams and extra curricular teams consistently receive state and national recognition.

Recreation & Community Education

Huron Valley Schools offers numerous programs through our Recreation & Community Education Department.  The following programs are offered to both children and adults:

District Size

The Huron Valley District covers 107 square miles encompassing the townships of Commerce, Highland, Milford, White Lake and the Village of Milford. The District ranks 6th out of 28 Oakland Districts in the number of students it serves. We employ approximately 600 teachers and more than 1,400 staff.

Accreditation Status

The Huron Valley Schools is part of the Michigan Accreditation Program.  All elementary schools are summary accredited.  Both Milford and Lakeland High Schools are fully accredited by the North Central Association, as well as Muir, Oak Valley and White Lake Middle Schools.

Points of Pride

2012-13 Achievements in Arts, Academics & Athletics

*District MEAP Proficiency scores exceeded state results on all 18 assessments and exceeded or met county results in 17 out of 18 assessments with the exception of 5th grade science which had a 1 point difference.

*District MEAP mean scale scores exceeded state results on all 18 assessments and improved in 16 of 18 assessments.

*As listed on MI School Data, 72 % of District MEAP mean scale scores (13 of 18assesssments) exceeded county results.

*As determined by the Bureau of Assessment and Accountability, 83% of District MEAP mean scale scores (15 of 18 assessments) exceeded or met county results.

*Both Milford and Lakeland High Schools were recognized by Newsweek as being in the top 200 high schools in the nation!

*The International Academy (IA) is now an official International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) school, making the IA one of the only all-IB high schools in the state of Michigan. The IA is the number one high school in the State of Michigan according to Newsweek and U.S. News and World Report. The average ACT score is 29 and the IA boasts 98% college readiness index.

*HVS has 175 AP Scholars.

*Lakeland High School student Taylor Janssen is the 2012-2013 State Champion in the Giant Slalom, student Kelsey Griffin is 2012-2013 All State (3rd place finish - Slalom). The Girls Boarder Cross Team are State Champions for the third consecutive year and the Boys Golf Team is the KLAA Lakes Conference Champions.

*Milford High School Boys 4 X Mile Relay Team are National Champs, MHS Boys Cross Country Team are back to back State Champions, and student Brian Kettle was the Division 1 Cross Country Individual State Champion. Milford High School Girls Golf Team were All State Academic with a GPA of 3.82

*MHS Cross Country Coach Brian Salyers named Michigan High School Track Coaches Association's "Division One Boys State Coach of the Year" for the fifth time.

*National Congressional Honor was given to Milford High School student Morgan Bullard for her Artwork which will be displayed at the Capital Building in Washington D.C. for one year.

*Heritage Elementary has been named as the 30th "Lighthouse" School in the world!
